英虞湾（あごわん）は、伊勢志摩国立公園の一部で、リアス海岸と入り組んだ大小さまざまな島が一体となった絶景スポットです。
Ago Bay is a bay is superb view spot with rias coastline and various size islands, and a part of Ise-Shima National Park.

英虞湾の島の中で最も大きい有人島が、賢島です。賢島にはサミット会場となった志摩観光ホテルがあり、遊覧船、展望デッキ、真珠の加工工場などもあり、英虞湾観光の拠点となっています。真珠を使ったアクセサリー作り体験や、牡蠣の浜焼きなども堪能できます。リアス式の海岸沿いをシーカヤックで巡ることもでき、目の前で跳ねる魚、頭上を飛び交う鳥の姿を楽しむこともできます。
Kasikojima island is the largest inhabited island in Ago Bay. There is Shima Kanko Hotel, used as summit venue. The island is the center of Ago Bay sightseeing and many places to visit and see – pleasure boat tour, lookout point and pearl processing plant. There are many options in your Ago Bay trip, you can enjoy pearl accessory making class and oyster grill dinner. Sea kayaking also be good choice – viewing unique seashore shape and watching fish and seabirds.

英虞湾を眺めるのにベストなビューポイントが、横山展望台です。こちらの写真は、横山展望台より撮影されたものです。標高203メートルの横山にあり、きれいに整えられた緩やかな木道スロープで向かいます。他にもパノラマ展望台、英虞湾展望台があり、心地よい風に吹かれながら、春には桜、秋には紅葉も楽しめます。
Yokoyama Observatory is the best viewpoint to overlook Ago Bay. This picture is taken at the observatory. It stands at 203m elevation but easy to access with well arranged with wooden gentle slope. You will also want to visit panoramic observation deck and Ago Bay observatory. With gentle soft winds, enjoy sakura in Spring, autumn leaves in fall.夕暮れには、英虞湾が黄昏色に染まり、穏やかな海原に島々のシルエットが浮かび上がります。素晴らしい眺望に、時がたつのを忘れて見入ってしまうことでしょう。英虞湾は日本の夕陽百選にも選ばれおり、特に美しいことで有名です。
In dusk, Ago Bay will be twilight color and island silhouettes come up over gentle ocean. Ago Bay is one of the best 100 sunset viewpoint in Japan. You forget about the time viewing the most beautiful sunset.

英虞湾の青い海には半島が折り重なるように点在し、真珠や牡蠣を養殖する筏や、その合間を往来する小さな船も望めます。
Many peninsula scatter in the blue ocean in Ago Bay. You can look farming rafts for oysters and pearls and small boats working among them.

真珠は日本を代表する宝石です。古来「月の雫」と美しい呼び名がつき、上品で洗練された輝きは多くの女性を虜にしてきました。一時期は絶滅の危機にあったアコヤガイの真珠ですが、ここ英虞湾で養殖に成功しました。今では日本有数の養殖真珠の産地となっています。
Pearl is symbolic jewelry of Japan. Called beautiful name as “moon drop” in old times, its elegant and fine shine have obsessed many women. Pearl oysters are once in danger of extinction, but now Ago Bay is one of the best pearl cultivation place.養殖といえば、英虞湾では牡蠣も有名です。英虞湾は横山、金比羅山に囲まれ、ミネラル豊富な水質と充分なプランクトンによって成長し、ここの牡蠣は大ぶりで濃厚な甘みが特徴です。
Cultivated oysters in Ago Bay also very famous. Surrounded mountains like Yokoyama mountain and Konpira mountain, the water source of this place, the water is mineral rich and abundant plankton in the sea. Oysters in Ago Bay is well known about its size and rich flavor.

英虞湾のある伊勢志摩地域は古くより「御食国（みけつくに）」と呼ばれてきました。御食国とは、天皇に貢ぐ食材（主に水産・海産物）を納めた地域で、かの万葉集でも、伊勢・志摩が歌に詠まれています。はるか昔から、三重県の豊かな海産物が貴重な食材として大切にされてきたことがわかりますね。
Ise-Shima region which holds Ago Bay has been called “Miketsu-Kuni”. “Miketsu-Kuni” means royal food supply and the place mainly produced seafoods. The Ise-Shima region appears in Manyoshu – the oldest anthology of Japanese poetry. The region has valued as rich production area of seafood from a long time ago.

英虞湾は、三重県の水産物を支える海の宝庫です。そして、緑と青い海原のコントラストが美しい自然の宝庫でもあります。三重県を訪れるなら、ぜひ英虞湾にも立ち寄って頂きたいですね。
