日本を旅する［三重］伊勢河崎商人館
伊勢市は伝統的な日本の風土を大切に守っている地域です。今回、ご紹介する伊勢河崎地区もそのひとつで、明治時代から江戸時代の古い街並みが残っています。
Ise City is an area where keeps carefully the traditional and natural features in Japan. Today we introduce you Isekawasaki area. It still has old styled cityscape of Meiji and Edo period.
伊勢河崎は、伊勢市の勢田川中流の両側に広がり、交通網であった水運を活かし、商人町として栄えました。江戸時代には「伊勢の台所」と言われたそうですから、伊勢神宮の参拝客向けに様々な商品を扱う商人たちであふれかえっていたことでしょう。多くの人々が足早に往来していたであろう活気あふれる様子が目に浮かぶようです。
Isekawasaki area are located on both sides of the middle of Seta river and it has prospered as a merchant’s city taking advantage of water transportation. It was called “Kitchen of Ise” in Edo period and crowded with merchants dealing with various products for the visitors of Ise Jingu shrine. We can easily imagine vibrant city where many people come and go to the city at that time.
当時は、川岸に沿って家々が並び、船から直接、荷駄を蔵に入れることができるようになっていた商家もありました。もっとも、河川敷は改修工事によって景観を変えていますが、街並みそのものは江戸時代のまま、間口は狭く奥行きのある建物が続いています。
Some riverside merchant’s houses are cargo entrance which enabled ship loading and unloading directly at that time. Riverbeds has changed by repair work but there are old cityscape of Edo period, many of deep houses with narrow frontage.
趣のある街並みを散歩する前に、ぜひ「河崎商人館」を訪れて下さい。伊勢河崎商人館は、もとは江戸時代創業の酒問屋「小川酒店」を改築した施設です。商家ならではの造りや酒問屋の醸造施設も見学ができます。
We recommend you to visit “Kawasakisyouninkan” first. Isekawasakisyouninkan is a refurbished building of “Ogawa Saketen”, an sake wholesaler established in the Edo period. You can look around unique structure of merchant’s house and sake brewery.
伊勢河崎商人館は、蔵が七棟、町家二棟があります。特に母屋は見所が多く、河崎を代表する商家の和室や京都裏千家の茶室「吶々斎（とつとつさい）」の写し、商家の道具や記録といった資料も見ることができます。建築、特に日本家屋に興味がある人にはおすすめですね。よくある古い建造物のように立ち入り禁止など制限されているところは少なく、建物全体をじっくり見て回ることができます。
There are 7 warehouses and 2 townhouses. The main wing has many highlights – a Japanese room of leading merchant of Kawasaki, a reproduction of “Totsutotsu-sai”, a tearoom of Kyoto Urasenke tea celemony school and the historical materials such as merchant’s tool and records. It is the best place to visit for people who has interest in history and Japanese structures. There are few access limit so visitors can look around entire structures.
小川酒店は酒問屋でしたが、昭和42年から昭和50年まで実はサイダーも製造していました。伊勢河崎商人館では当時のサイダーを再現し、名前もそのまま「エスサイダー」として販売しています。レトロな瓶詰めサイダーは、チクチクと炭酸のきいた懐かしい味で、ぐるりと商人館を見学した後にぜひ、エスサイダーで喉をうるおして下さいね。さぁ、ひと休みをしたら、河崎マップを手に街並み散歩するのがお勧めですよ！
Though Ogawa Saketen was sake wholesaler, it was manufacturing soda pop from 1967 to 1975. The soda pop reproduction “S cider” is sold at I sekawasakisyouninkan. The retro bottled soda pop has fuzzy nostalgic taste. After a break with soda pop, let’s take a walk in the town!
伊勢河崎の街並みを歩けば、大きな蔵や今も商いをしているお店がいくつも見られるでしょう。伊勢河崎には今も暮らしがあり、瀬戸物屋に乾物屋さん、うどん屋もあれば、古本屋もあります。懐かしい八百屋の店先で、買い物をするのも楽しそうです。
There are many shop still open for business in Isekawasaki. People still living there. A chinaware shop, a grocery store, am udon restaurant and a secondhand bookstore – you can find various shop. It must be fun enjoying shopping at a nostalgic green-grocer.
特徴的な妻入りの町家をひとつひとつ、眺めていけば、さまざまな発見があります。伊勢河崎の町家は、特に瓦屋根に特徴があります。商家には鈍色に光る鬼瓦が、また建物に水が入るのを防ぐための「隅蓋」と言われる瓦もあり、波形や蛙、亀など飾りがついているので、こちらもぜひ探してみて下さいね。
Unique “Tsumairi” architectural style houses shows you various discoveries. The houses in Isekawasaki has unique tiled roof. Please check dull colored “Onigawara”, a ridge‐end tile at the merchant’s houses. “Sumibuta” is a roof tile used as a corner lid keep rains away from inside. Let’s find decorated tile such as wave shaped, frog ornament or turtle designed one!
