日本を旅する［三重］熊野古道
紀伊山地にある3つの霊場「熊野三山・高野山・吉野大峯」それらをつなぐ「参詣道」は世界遺産に登録されました。熊野古道（くまのこどう）は三重、奈良、和歌山にまたがり、熊野参詣道として国の史跡にも指定されています。今回は大自然と日本古来の神々の息吹に触れられる三重・熊野古道をご紹介します。
Three sacred sites “Kumanosanzan”, “Kouyasan” and ” Yoshino Omine” at Kii Mountains and pilgrimage routes connecting them are registered as a World Heritage Site. Kumano Kodo Street extending over three Prefectures is also designated as a national historic site. Let us introduce Kumano Kodo in Mie Prefecture, where visitors feel nature and ancient Japanese gods blessing.
熊野古道は神仏の霊場をつなぐ「道」です。その昔、巡礼者たちは険しい峠を越え、壮大な自然美のもと、一歩一歩大地を踏みしめながら、神仏への祈念を捧げ「祈りの道」を歩いたのでしょう。
Kumano Kodo is the road connecting sacred sites of deities. Long ago, pilgrim crossed a steep mountain pass step by step with praying. Surrounded by magnificent natural landscape, they walked on “the path of prayer”.
伊勢神宮から熊野三山へ、約170キロの巡礼の道。ふたつの聖地を結ぶ伊勢路は、まず女鬼峠（めきとうげ）を越えていきます。いくつもの峠道が続き、難所の八鬼山越え（やきやまごえ）もあり、昔の巡礼者たちの苦労が忍ばれます。それでも人々は祈りをこめ、魂のよみがえりを願い、巡礼の旅を続けました。昔から「伊勢に七度、熊野に三度」といわれるほど、この道を行き、祈りの霊場を訪れることは憧れであったのです。
The pilgrimage routes is about 170km long, from Ise Jingu to Kumanosanzan. First they have to cross Meki mountain pass at Ise road, connecting two sacred sites. There are long road over the pass including Mt. Yakiyama pass known as the hardest site to cross. Although it was such hard travel, pilgrimage continued. People kept on their pilgrimage with a prayer for salvation. It has been said like “7 times pilgrimage for Ise, 3 times for Kumano” since long time ago. Many people were longing to visit those sacred sites.
こちらは松本峠（まつもととうげ）です。山道に入るとびっしりと組まれた石畳が続きます。苔むした石に枝がからみ、濃い緑の大木が道を覆うように光をさえぎり、とても神秘的な雰囲気です。
This is Matsumoto pass. A long and steady cobblestone pavement alleys to the site. Branches twining around mossy rocks and lush green trees covers the sky. It is so solemn and mysterious.
木漏れ日の下歩いていくと、大きなお地蔵様に出会えます。このお地蔵様、建立されたその日に妖怪と間違えられて鉄砲傷をつけられてしまったそうで・・・。竹林にかこまれた石畳の道は昔はもっと薄暗かったに違いなく、とつぜん目の前に現れたお地蔵様にさぞ驚き、妖怪め！と思わず鉄砲を撃ってしまったのでしょうか。
You will come across a large Jizo, the guardian deity for travelers with a gunshot. Someone mistook it for a kind of Yokai,a monstrous being, and shot it on the very day of its establishment. The stone pavement might be darker, surrounded by bamboo forest – he must have been so surprised and accidentally shot the Jizo,thinking it was a monster.
お地蔵様から展望台へ向かえば、七里御浜から獅子岩や花の窟神社がきれいに見渡せます。
Starding from the spot where Jizo stands, let’s head to a viewing platform. You can overlook from Shichiri Mihama to Shishiiwa and Hananoiwaya Shrine.
さぁ、こちらが花の窟（はなのいわや）です。高さ45メートルの巨岩と瑞々しい緑のコントラストが美しく、自然の造形美に圧倒されます。この巨岩こそ、花の窟神社のご神体です。ご神体から、境内にある松のご神木まで大注連縄がかけられています。花の窟神社ですが、ご神体をまつる社殿がありません。
This is Hananoiwaya. A huge rock of 45 meters height and lush greeny scenery is so stunning. This rock is “shintai”, an object enshrined.
The large shimenawa(sacred festoon) strings along from the rock to the enshrined pine in inner shrine. There is no shrine building here.
日本人ははるか昔から、自然を尊び、自然を敬い、自然に宿る神々に畏敬の念を抱いてきました。ここ、花の窟も古代から巨岩がご神体としてそのままにあり、まさに自然崇拝の極みといえるでしょう。
Since long time ago, the nature have long been respected nature and thought as deity in Japan. Hananoiwaya shrine, where worships huge rock as a deity, is a good instance of nature respect.
花の窟神社は日本最古の神社と言われています。日本書紀（古代の歴史書）にも記され、イザナミノミコトの御陵（お墓）と伝えています。イザナミノミコトは日本神話では数々の神を産み落とした「母なる神」。火の神を産んだときに火傷を負い、ここに葬られたそうです。昔の人々が季節ごとに花を供えてきたことから「花の窟」という名前がつきました。境内は緑が多く、厳かでありながら清々しい空気に包まれて、身も心も洗われるようです。
It is said that Hananoiwaya Shrine is the one of oldest shrine in Japan. Its name is shown on Nihon Shoki, an ancient history document and the shrine is a mausoleum of Izanami the mother goddess, who have gave birth to many gods in Japanese myth. She was burnt to death at the birth of fire god and have buried there. The place came to be called “Hananoiwaya”,means a flower cave, because people have offered flowers. The shrine is surrounded by lush green and air is clean and fresh. Those who visit the place must feel theirselves refreshed.
あなたも「心のよみがえり」を求めて、熊野古道を歩いてみませんか？ 「道」はよく、人生にも例えられます。熊野古道を行く、進んでいく先に、あなた自身の「人生の新しい行先」を見つけることだって、もしかしたら、あるかもしれません。
