「おかげ横丁」なんだかとっても愉しげな響きではありませんか？
“Okage Yokocho” – roughly translated, “thanks street”. Sounds so pleasant, doesn’t it?

三重県伊勢神宮内宮にある門前町、それが「おかげ横丁」です。名前の由来は、「お伊勢さんのおかげ」という感謝の気持ちからきているそうです。〝自然の恵みへの感謝と、日々おかげさまの心をもつ伊勢の人々によって「おかげ横丁」は支えられている〟愉しい響きの名前には、深い意味が込められているんですね。
Okage Yokocho is the cathedral town in Naiku(inner shrine) of Ise Jingu shrine. The name means “thanks to Oise-san” (casual name for Ise Jungu). A gratitude for nature by people in Ise supports “Okage Yokocho”. Pleasant name has profound name behind it.ご覧下さい。伊勢路の古い町並みが再現された石畳の通りで、色とりどりの幟（のぼり）や、ひと息つける縁台（長いす）も見えます。
Please look at it – an old town around Ise with stone pavement, colorful banner pleases your eyes. If you get tired, you can rest at bench.

約4,000坪の敷地には、江戸時代から明治時代にかけての三重・伊勢路の代表的な建築物が移築・再現されています。外壁は伊勢ならではの強い雨風にも耐えられるよう「きざみ囲い」がほどこされ、木目の美しい栂（とが）材を多用した妻入の木造建築は、鈍色の瓦屋根とあいまって、どっしりと風格のあるたたずまいです。
Traditional buildings in Mie, Ise region from the Edo period to the Meiji period
 are reconstructed in 4,000 tsubo(approx. 13,223m square) site. Outer walls are made with tecnique called “Kizami gakoi” to bear with heavy rain and wind. Wooden architecture with tsuga timbers that have beautiful woodgrain has classy atmosphere, in combination with dull colored tiled roof.

さて、まずはおかげ横丁一番の「食べてよし」の楽しみをご紹介しましょう。
Let’s check the cuisine pleasure at Okage Yokocho!名物・伊勢うどんは極太麺、もっちりしていながら柔らかいのが特徴です。たまり醤油の濃厚なつゆが染みこんで、これがおいしいのです！　
Ise udon noodles are very famous with the extra thick, chewy and soft taste. Enjoy the good taste of rich soy sauce soup!

名物といえば、老舗の赤福も有名ですね。おもちに波打つようにあんこをのせた赤福は、かわいらしい姿形だけでなく、ひと口食べれば、たっぷりのあんこは口当たりもよく、上品な甘みに思わずにっこり。おもちも食感がよく、もうひとつ、もうひとつとお茶を飲みながらついつい手が伸びてしまいます。
Akafuku, the established sweets is also very popular. Decorated with plenty of sweet been jam in wavy shape on rice cakes, akafuku fascinate you both in lovely appearance and elegant taste with green tea. You cannot stop smiling – and cannot stop eating!

お子さん連れなら、ぜひ駄菓子屋「銭屋」さんへ！　店先にずらりと並ぶ、懐かしい駄菓子の数々に、大人も童心に返り、夢中になってしまいそうです。
If you visit there with children, please drop by candy shop “Zeniya”! Traditional Japanese candies makes even visitors feel nostalgic. Go back to your childhood. Enjoy with children!

女友達とふたりならカフェやお団子屋さんもいいし、食いしん坊さんたちには厚切りトンカツや牛肉専門店があります。恋人と一緒に落ち着いた和食店やお寿司屋さんでゆったり過ごすのもお勧めです。もしかして、ひとり旅？　それなら伊勢萬酒造でくいっと一杯「吟醸おかげさま」冷酒を飲んで、ぶらりぶらりするのも一興です。
For a party of two with your female friend, there are many places to visit. Cafe, dumpling seller and so on … A beef specialty store or restaurant famous for thick pork cutlet is good option. If you are with your love, Japanese restaurant or sushi bar with relaxing atmosphere will be also good. Traveling alone? Then you should definitely visit Iseman Shuzo(sake brewer) to taste “Ginjo okagesama” sake!

もうひとつ、おかげ横丁で目に留めていただきたいのが、伊勢ならではの工芸品です。
One more thing you must check at Okage Yokocho – craftwork of Ise.

こちらは招き猫専門店の「吉兆招福亭」です。どかーんと大きな愛嬌のある招き猫が鎮座ましまし、思わずツツツツーっと店内に誘われてしまうのも、これまたご愛敬！　おかげ横丁では「福を持ち帰ってほしい」と願いをこめて、招き猫がいたるところに隠れています。それを探すのも楽しいですね。
This is “Kiccho Shofukutei”, maneki neko(beckoning cat) specialty shop. Huge and lovely manekineko is sitting and welcoming you, so it might not be possible to resist. Manekinekos are everywhere in Okage Yokocho, wishing you bringing good luck
with you. It will be fun to search and find them.実は、おかげ横丁には、招き猫ならぬ「おかげ犬」もいるんです。他にも松阪もめん、御木本真珠、県内の作家による器を扱うお店もあり、三重県の伝統工芸品が揃っています。
In fact, there is also “Okage Inu” – thanks dog, not only “maneki neko” – beckoning cat in Okage Yokocho. And there are many interesting craftwork store suck as Matsuzaka cotton, Mikimoto pearl, earthenware shop selling local artists’ work. You can find all traditional craftwork of Mie Prefecture there.

おかげ横丁は大賑わいで毎日がお祭りのよう。でもノスタルジックな街全体の喧噪のなか、つと立ち止まれば、江戸時代にタイムスリップしたような、時間が止まったような、不思議な感覚に包まれます。
Everyday is lively and like a festival in Okage Yokocho. Stop for a moment, and feel nostalgic atmosphere like transporting through time to Edo period.
